Signària

A system built by Pompeu Fabra University and Barcelona firm Sorensen.ai that lets a deaf journalist host live radio, and translates live radio audio into Catalan Sign Language in real time. It began with journalism student Berta Viñas, who found she could not work in radio through an interpreter. A camera reads her signs; a live transcript of the conversation and the text of articles she has already written are fed to an LLM as context, so it learns her style; the system combines the detected signs with linguistic and grammatical rules to generate three candidate sentences; she selects one with a foot pedal, and it is spoken aloud in her own radio-sound identity.
